Do I have essentially no chance at attaining a “Business Analyst Intern” position as a psych major?
Question: Do I have essentially no chance at attaining a “Business Analyst Intern” position as a psych major?
Although I am not a business major of any sort, I think I have excellent/extremely good analytical and critical thinking skills; attaining a position like this would put my natural work strengths to work. While I don’t have any formal business training, I love learning and am willing to learn new things. I’m also an honors student, which would give me a slight edge I suppose. There is no major that is stated to be preferred on the job posting–do I have a chance? The only requirements listed are:
• Strong academic performance (current cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above)
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
• Leadership and decision-making skills
• Clear and effective communication skills
• Strong planning and organizational skills
• Assertiveness and strong initiative
I feel like that is honestly a description of myself in some regards… if I have a nice resume and cover letter will I have a chance at attaining an interview and the job? Realistically…no sugar coating here haha

Unless you are at a top school and the top of your class, it will be difficult. A business analyst must be able to critically analyze business situations. This requires some business knowledge that is provided at a basic level through course work that a business school would provide.
You might want to find an internship with something that deals with business change management or HR. This is more in line with your education.
If you are interested in becoming a business analyst, you might want to see about adding a business minor. That should help you with securing a BA position.
Oh – and many companies will name some position as Business Analyst. That does not necessarily mean that you are a true business analyst. A real business analyst has many years of experience in a specific industry.

No. You do not have 0 chance at the intern job…it’s just a smaller chance than someone who has a 3.5 GPA and studies that emphasize “business” instead of “psych”
Buisness Anyalysts are for economy majors such as myself, not buis. majors.
However it is an intern position so they just want someone with a degree who isn’t a complete idiot, however you will not be able to move up.
